The Legend of Gilbert

Deep in the heart of the Santa Clara Valley, there lived a mischievous yet kind-hearted elf named Gilbert—though everyone fondly called him “Gil.” Born in 2007 from the magic of the valley’s rich soil, Gil had a special connection to the land, helping farmers grow their bountiful crops, making sure the garlic fields thrived and the land’s trees grew as if by magic.

For centuries, Gil worked behind the scenes, ensuring that the region’s garlic—the most famous in the world—remained strong and flavorful. However, Gil wasn’t just about farming; he loved trees and bringing joy to everyone he met!

One day as he watched families visit the beautiful gardens and whimsical rides of Gilroy Gardens, he realized that his true calling was not just growing garlic and trees, but growing happiness!  So, he stepped out from the fields and into the park, where he was welcomed with open arms.

Now as the official mascot of Gilroy Gardens, Gil spreads cheer wherever he goes, sharing stories of the region’s agricultural heritage, celebrating the beauty of nature, and, of course, reminding everyone of the importance of trees in our lives!

The Tale of Royelle

Not many people know this, but Gilbert—better know as Gil—has a sister who is just as magical ad mischievous as he is! Her name is Royelle, but her friends (and that includes just about everyone she meets) know that she’s a little bit princess and a little bit tomboy and she likes to be called “Roy”!

Like Gil, Roy was born from the rich, fertile soil of the Santa Clara Valley in 2013. While Gil spent much of his time in the garlic fields, Roy had a different calling—she loved flowers and all the colorful plants that filled the valley. She would dance through the orchards, coaxing blossoms to bloom and painting the petals with the most vibrant hues.

Roy has always been full of energy, always on the move, and is always ready for a new adventure. She is passionate about pollinators—bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds! She teaches visitors about the importance of how plants grow, and how we can all help nature thrive.

With her bright personality and bow-protected garlic braid, Roy now spreads her joy at Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park, making sure every guest—big or small—feels connected to the beauty and nature. She can often be found near the park’s most colorful gardens, encouraging kids to stop and smell the flowers, and reminding everyone that every little bloom plays a big part in the world around us.
