These self-guided explorations of everything green at Gilroy Gardens are an educational treasure hunt! The Green Discovery Days program is appropriate for students in grades K-5.
- Sites at the Green Barn and Green Spots located throughout the park
- Workbooks for each student are provided on arrival
- Nature Detective Certificate for each student with a discount offer to return on another public operating day

Imagine a place where children are inspired to discover the art and science of nature, a maker place that is a studio and a lab.
Our Circus Trees are an amazing example of man's patience and imagination. Find each tree as you journey around the park.
Learning Around the Park
Keep the learning going by visiting our four Green Spots, with displays that teach about geology, weather, redwood trees and the Circus Trees.
A Backdrop For Fun
Inspire an appreciation for the environment as you take your students through the park's six majestic gardens.
Green Barn Workshop Upgrade:
Enhance your Green Discovery Day with a Green Barn Lesson Plan for $10 per Student
The Green Barn is where art and science ignite imagination at Gilroy Gardens! It's the hub of the education programs at the park and includes Nature Exchange, Art Studio and Reading Nook. These workshops are meant to complement classroom study. Includes pre and post visit plans and is tied to California's Next Generation Science Standards. For class sizes up to 50 students. Limited availability.
Each 2 Hour Green Barn Session begins at 9am and Includes:
- Introduction to Green Barn and Trading at the Nature Exchange
- Scientific presentation, investigation and experimentation related to the chosen lesson plan
- Art Studio activities for students to express and present their ideas

Plants and Trees
Students get a close up and hands-on experience with the world of plants. They look at how plants grow and thrive, and get a glimpse at why they are the basis for survival on the planet.
Through demonstrations and experimentation, students will learn about the Earth’s oldest and rarest objects – how they are made and how they differ from one another. They may even see a rock float on water!
Life As We Know It
Why do living things look and behave the way they do? Explore the biodiversity of the world of animals and insects by examining and comparing scientific artifacts in the Green Barn collection.
Learn about growing up green in this empowering session that looks at water and nature conservation in our area and the world beyond. What can each of us do to help develop a “greener future”? Green Matters!
