Camellia Garden
Have you ever seen a camellia wave? You can if you visit
our Camellia Garden. Our wave is composed of 46 Yuletide Camellias that
bloom in the winter. The blossoms are bright red with deep yellow
centers. The wave was brought in by sections with a crane. Since the
cedar trees in back were already planted and the roof overhead was already
in place, the crane operator could not see where he was placing the
sections. Gardeners beneath the roof were directing the crane operator
by 2-way radio. He did quite a job, so tip your hat to him and give
the Camellia "Wave" a friendly wave back.
In the spring when the camellias are in full bloom, it's a spectacular
sight. Blossoms of white, pink, red and even variegated colors
fill the shrubs. They are as varied as the colors: some are singles,
some are semi-doubles and others are doubles.
We're especially
proud of our grafted camellias: two different varieties of camellias
on the same plant that bloom at different times of the year. Sasanqua
and Japonica camellias are grafted on one plant. It took a year,
but these camellias have given us so many more years of beauty.
Once the Camellias have blossomed, look for our colorful Hydrangeas. Later in the season, hanging baskets filled with
a medley of Impatiens
brighten up the area.
Also in Camellia Garden is our Red & White Stores replica.
It plays
host to our Musical Market Show. Have a seat and enjoy this animatronics
show featuring Mario Garlic and Tomato Jack, supported by cast of
other vegetables and fruits. It's an easy and entertaining way to
learn about good nutrition.
